Storage, Handling And Maintenance Of Acrylic Sheet Mirror
Acrylic or Acrylic glass is a transparent thermoplastic and is used in many applications. Acrylic is lightweight, impact-resistant, scratch-resistant, strong and tough, filters UV light and transmits light up to 92%.
There are different types of acrylic sheets like solid acrylic sheets, tinted acrylic sheets, prismatic acrylic sheets, fluorescent acrylic sheets and acrylic sheet mirror.
The mirror sheets are very useful where glass cannot be used. The mirror sheets are feasible and provide good resistance against impact and shattering. It is durable and cost-effective when compared to glass. It can be used as a replacement for glass in applications. It helps to enhance the look of a project and also makes it safe. As it is shatter-proof it is easy to transport.
The mirror sheets are used in point-of-purchase displays, cosmetic displays, slat walls, signage, children’s toys and more.
Storage and handling of mirror sheets
The mirror sheet comes with protective masking on the top side. The masking should not be removed during storage and fabrication. The sheets should be stored in a clean, dry and warm place. It should be protected from excessive heat and vapours from chemicals and solvents.
The sheets can be stored horizontally or vertically. When stored vertically the sheets should be placed at an angle with the vertical. You should avoid the sheets from warping. When stored horizontally the sheet should not slip, wrap or slide. The smaller pieces should be placed on top of the larger pieces to avoid overhanging. This will not allow the dirt to settle between the sheets.
The mirror sheets are painted on the back and have a masking in the front. While handling both the surface should be protected from getting scratched. When handling the mirror side should face down with the masking on.
Maintenance of mirror sheets
The mirror sheets can be cleaned by using a soft cloth, soap and water. To remove the grease, oil or tar from the sheet you can use kerosene, hexane or naptha. You should not use window cleaning sprays or kitchen cleaning compounds for cleaning.
If there are fine scratches on the sheet then they can be removed by using a plastic scratch remover. You can hand polish the sheet with the scratch remover. The residue should be removed with a fine cloth.
The surface gloss of the sheet can be maintained by using polish and fine cloth. The acrylic sheets will react when exposed to chemicals and solvents and therefore they should be avoided. The mirror sheets are not recommended for outdoor use but if used then the perimeter should be sealed with a sealant to avoid moisture and protect the paint backing.
Acrylic is a combustible material therefore it should be protected from flame and high heat sources.
